Frequently asked questions

How do I contact the Ausländerbehörde Erlangen?

Address: Rathausplatz 1, 91052 Erlangen. Phone: +49 9131 86-1993. E-mail: auslaenderbehoerde@stadt.erlangen.de. Opening hours as published by the office: Mo 8:00–12:00 und 14:00–16:00 Uhr; Di, Do, Fr 8:00–12:00 Uhr; Telefonische Erreichbarkeit: Di 13:30–15:00 Uhr, Mi 10:00–12:00 Uhr, Do 13:30–15:00 Uhr.

How do I get an appointment at the Ausländerbehörde Erlangen?

The office explains on its website how it gives appointments: https://erlangen.de/amt/37702

My residence permit expires and I have no appointment yet. What applies?

The application counts, not the appointment: if you apply for the extension before the permit expires, it is deemed to continue until the office decides (§ 81 (4) AufenthG). Apply in a way you can prove, for example in writing or through the office’s online form.

Is the immigration office also responsible for naturalisation?

Not everywhere. The naturalisation certificate is issued by the citizenship authority (§ 16 StAG); which body that is locally is decided by the federal state. In many places it is a different office.
